Go for Gold

Go for Gold is a campaign that we are running between April and September. To take part all you need to do is to set yourself a challenge or a number of challenges to complete over the summer.

Weldmar's Gold AwardThe idea is for you to set your own personal challenges and raise money in the process for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

It can be anything from a 20 mile bike ride to a sponsored silence, a swimathon to a cake eating challenge or wingwalking to setting yourself a weight loss target. The choice is yours.

All we ask is that you challenge yourself in some way and you get sponsored in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

How much money do I need to raise?

As much money as you can! If you raise:

  • £50 - £100 you will receive a Bronze Award
  • Raising £101 - £250 will give you a Silver Award
  • And for raising £251 and over you will be presented with a Gold Award.

You can do as many challenges as you want between April and September to reach your target. Once you have registered, we will send you sponsorship forms so you can start raising money straight away.

Julian FellowesAfter the Go for Gold Campaign has finished everyone who raises £50 or more will be invited to a presentation evening on Friday 26th October when Julian Fellowes (the creator of Downton Abbey and the writer of the 2012 TV series Titanic), will present you with your award.

More information about the presentation will be sent to you nearer the time.

It would be great if we can have a picture of you, especially during your challenge. Then with your consent, we can use them to publicise your achievement!

A true personal challenge ...

Tracey BakerTracey Baker, a nurse at Weldmar, set herself a personal challenge last year, to learn to swim. Tracey explains her journey and reasons for taking up this challenge.

“I lost my dad and brother within a very short time of each other; my brother was an inspiration to me as was my dad. They were both very proud of my marathon running but after my 17th marathon, I developed an Achilles injury which is every runner’s nightmare. It prevented me from running for six months.

So … I set myself another challenge, to learn to swim. Within four months I could swim 40 lengths of the pool and, as I have a fear of putting my face in water, this was a huge step for me.

Once I could do this I then went a step further and entered into the Weldmar Staff Team in the Weymouth Swimathon. This was an amazing event and raised over £7,000.

After this my training increased and I entered the Ironman, swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running 26.3 miles, after a gruelling 12 hours 42 minutes I was declared an IRONMAN.

Not only did I complete these challenges within the time, I also conquered my own personal challenge of learning to swim! I took part in memory of my dad and brother but also to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust – and the best bit is, I faced my own personal challenge, to learn to swim and did it!”

Learning to swim was Tracey’s personal challenge however yours could be anything!
