A heartwarming tale from Weldmar’s Day Services
Everyone has the chance to shine at our Day Services across the county
At our Shaftesbury Day Services, we have a very creative patient called Rachel.
She noticed that another patient, Christopher (pictured), enjoyed having something to hold onto and play with. Christopher has Alzheimer’s disease and enjoys the stimulation of different textures and shapes.
We talked about how there are products on the market called ‘fiddle muffs’ that provide such stimulation, so Rachel decided she would be able to make a fiddle muff for Christopher, and set about finding appropriate things to use. Over the course of a week or two, while in Day Services, Rachel made a beautiful fiddle muff for Christopher.
Christopher took to it immediately and his wife Veronica has since told us how much he enjoys having it.
In another example of putting her creative skills to good use, Rachel has also made a fleece sleeping bag for Christopher’s favourite teddy!
This is such a lovely example of how supportive our patients are of each other, and how our Day Services are such lovely little communities.
