Community Outreach Vehicle
A new service from Weldmar allows us to reach more people in our local communities, to provide help, advice, and information
Weldmar’s Community Outreach Vehicle was launched in September 2020, after successfully securing the funding from our Christmas 2019 Appeal, and a trust donation from the Werth Foundation.
Dorset is a beautiful county to live and work in, with many gorgeous towns, villages and hamlets. But it also has its problems. 47% of our patients live in rural locations. This means that they can easily feel isolated with little around them to support them. For some of our patients, the only people they will see during the week is our caring team of professionals.
83% of our care is given in the community and we are proud to deliver five Day Services across Dorset, but sadly, this doesn’t meet everyone’s needs. We wanted to do more to help reduce loneliness and isolation in our county.
Because of the highly rural location across the county, many of our patients find it difficult to travel long distances.
Popping down to their village shop or post office might be the only time that they leave their home. Our services are here for the people of Dorset and therefore, we wanted to make sure that we continue to be here for them, right in their communities. That’s why we introduced Weldmar’s Community Outreach Vehicle.
The vehicle acts as our mobile hub, travelling throughout the county each week parking outside GP surgeries, supermarkets, town centres or village hall car parks. It visits some of the most rural parts of our county offering a hub for patients and their loved ones, as well as members of the community, to visit us, find out more about our large range of services, or receive advice or support from our team of dedicated experts.
And you don’t need an appointment to visit us. Anyone can pop along for a cuppa and a chat with our warm and friendly team.
Here’s our latest timetable of where we will be – pop along and say hello:
- Wednesday 14th October, the weekly Farmers’ Market at The Turk’s Head in Chickerell for National Allied Health Profession’s Day. Come and meet our physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Don’t forget, our Community Outreach Vehicle is for everyone, whether you are currently receiving care and support from Weldmar or not. If you have a question, would like some advice, are looking for some care and support from Weldmar or just want to find out more about our services, come and say hello.
We’re always looking for new locations for our Community Outreach Vehicle. If you are holding an event, or have an outside space that we can visit, please get in touch – we’d love to hear from you.
We would like to thank LGF Commercials Ltd for working with us on the build of our bespoke vehicle.
