Equality and Diversity
Equality means we should strive to treat everybody with equal fairness, regardless of their background or difference. We are all different from each other in some way.
Diversity means we should recognise, value and celebrate that society is made up of people from varied backgrounds in terms of culture, identity, outlook, experience, interests, needs and so on.
Discrimination in relation to equality means when there is a difference they should not be treated unfairly.
The key differences that we need to consider include:
- caring responsibilities
- marriage and civil partnership
- pregnancy and maternity
- race or ethnicity
- religion or belief
- sexual orientation
- socio economic status
- transgender status
It is important then that within our organisation we recognise this and have the things in place that support us to achieve our aims.
Weldmar’s Equality & Diversity Statement
Weldmar recognises values and respects that each person is unique.
Weldmar is against any form of discrimination due to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, relationship status, age, religion or belief, transgender status, disability or caring responsibilities. Discrimination stops people being treated equally.
Weldmar is committed to being fair and equal in all areas of employment and in the care provided to patients.
The Law requires us not to discriminate but to treat people with dignity and respect. It is illegal to do otherwise and individuals can expect protection from discriminatory treatment within current legislation i.e. The Equality Act 2010
