Weldmar’s Strictly Ballroom

We are pleased to announce that Weldmar’s Strictly Ballroom is back for 2018. Have you got what it takes to be crowned Weldmar’s Strictly Ballroom champion?

How does it work?

Strictly Ballroom 2016We are recruiting 16 individuals (8 male and 8 female) who wish to learn how to dance ballroom. These 16 individuals will then be paired up to create a dancing couple.

Apply online now

All couples will attend 16 training sessions, held for an hour, once a week, over a 16 week period. This will give the couples an opportunity to get to know each other and create and perfect their own dance.

To help the couples learn the skill of ballroom dancing, they will be guided by Eileen Spracklen School of Dance who have very kindly agreed to support the couples throughout the competition. During training, if couples feel that they need more sessions than allocated, they can arrange to have extra lessons with Eileen Spracklen School of Dance at a cost funded by themselves.

On Friday 7th December, all eight couples will perform their dance at the finale evening held at Weymouth Pavilion to an audience and panel of judges.

What is expected of the dancers?

Strictly Ballroom 2016

We will let all applicants know on 4th July 2018 if they have been successful. Successful applicants will then pay a one off registration fee of £25. This fee covers all the dancing lessons, administration of their place and costs involved with the finale evening. This money will be added to the applicants sponsorship form at the end of the competition.

All dancers are asked that they pledge to raise at least an additional £400, of which 100% will go to Weldmar Hospicecare. Dancers are also expected to sell as many tickets as possible to friends and family members for the finale evening.

When the competition has finished

By the end of the competition you will know how to dance ballroom like a professional. You may wish to keep dancing and there are plenty of dance clubs around the county offering weekly dance sessions including our very own Eileen Spracklen who will be tutoring you throughout.

Hopefully throughout the competition you will build new friendships and will have formed a bond with your Strictly group.

More than anything, you will feel proud that you have raised money for Weldmar Hospicecare. Every penny will go towards caring for patients and their families throughout Dorset, a service which is provided free of charge.
