Fifty miles walked in less than 24 hours – Matt’s challenge raises more than £10,000
The walk was in memory of Matt’s Grandad and Aunt Caroline, who were both cared for at Weldmar’s IPU in the last twelve months
Weldmar Hospicecare’s Director of Fundraising and Marketing, Matt Smith, is no stranger to taking on his own challenges to raise money for the charity.
In the past he has run the London Marathon, completed the Three Peaks Challenge, abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower, and even danced non stop for ten hours. But his Devon to Dorset 24 Hour Challenge was certainly the most demanding task he’s set himself yet.
Starting at Ladram Bay in Devon at 8pm on Friday 4th September, Matt, along with dad Steve and expedition leader and Weldmar supporter Jon Forman, crossed the finish line at Weldmar’s IPU at 6:50pm the following evening.

The walk has so far raised in excess of ten thousand pounds, which will help Weldmar to continue providing specialist end of life care for patients and their loved ones in the community, at home, and at the Inpatient Unit in Dorchester.
We spoke to Matt shortly after he crossed the finish line:
Well done Matt, Steve, and Jon!
