Handwritten letter from Florence Nightingale discovered by Weldmar
Something special for us to reveal as part of Hospice Care Week.
Thanks to the people of Dorset, Weldmar Hospicecare has many treasures to discover in it’s chain of charity shops and outlets.
Most of the items you’ll find in our shops have been brought in by those having a clear out and think their items deserve a second home somewhere else. Now and again though, we’ll be asked to clear a house of items we’d like to sell, should the occupant have sadly passed away.
It was during once such house clearance that retail team regional manager Bev Peck discovered a handwritten letter by the founder of modern nursing – Florence Nightingale. As an organisation where nursing is at the heart of what we do, we thought it was a very special find.
Dated 1897 and written in pencil, it has been authenticated, and local antiquities and collectibles specialist, Tim Medhurst, star of BBC TV series Antiques Road Trip, came to take a look for us…
