Keep Calm And Carry On Cooking – meet Weldmar’s top notch kitchen team

< BACK TO NEWSQuite rightly, the doctors, nurses, and Allied Health Professionals who are continuing to provide front line care at Weldmar Hospicecare are getting plenty of attention at the moment.
However, without a number of different teams behind the scenes, we simply would not be able to carry on providing this care in such difficult circumstances.
Our specialist chefs and kitchen staff have been tirelessly working at our IPU in Dorchester. They are making sure that each individual patient gets tailored meals they need to suit their needs.
Their visitors are also fed – each patient is allowed up to two visitors at this time – and of course, meals are prepared for the clinical teams, admin and support staff, and those working in housekeeping and maintenance at the IPU.
Making sure social distancing is observed in the kitchen remains a challenge, as is preparing all the meals needed with less staff, and limited supplied because there are less regular food donations being made.
Sam White is Chef Manager, and says, “The Catering team are doing an amazing job of providing the same excellent service they always do, even though the way we work has had to change slightly so that we are managing social distancing as effectively as we can.
“The Specialist Chef team are working hard to provide suitable meals for all of our patients dietary needs and our Chef team are making delicious meals for our staff and relatives here at the inpatient unit. We too have suffered a lack of eggs and flour so the team had to get quite creative in their baking methods for a short time!
Our Kitchen Assistant Team are working with us, keeping us all ship shape and tidy so we can continue to provide our services.”
