Lucy runs for Weldmar
A Weldmar Community Nurse is competing in the Great West Run
Lucy Moxham of Weymouth, one of Weldmar Hospicecare’s Community Nurses in the south of Dorset, is taking part in her first ever running race to raise funds for the charity.
She will be running in the Great West Run – a half marathon taking place on Sunday 16th October 2016 in Exeter.
Lucy has been working for Weldmar Hospicecare for almost a year, and is looking forward to her biggest challenge yet.
Lucy said “I want to do it to raise money and support Weldmar with all the fantastic work the charity does; providing specialist palliative care and support to patients, families, carers and also other health professionals. We provide an invaluable service throughout Dorset and if, by running, I can raise awareness and some money then I’ll be happy”.
She only started running four months ago – inspired by her colleague and friend, Weldmar Community Nurse Karen Samuel, who ran in the London Marathon earlier this year.
Karen said “Lucy has achieved so much in so little time with all her training. She is full of determination and I know she will smash it! She has overcome many hurdles and remains focussed on running for such a great cause”.
Lucy finished with “Karen is running with me, so at lease I’ll have a nurse if I collapse!”.
Weldmar Hospicecare Trust cares for patients with cancer and other progressive conditions, such as motor neurone disease, who require specialist help. Patients in north, south and west Dorset have a seamless service, whether they require care and advice in the comfort of their own homes, in the Wellbeing Centres or the inpatient unit at Joseph Weld Hospice.
If anyone wishes to support Lucy with her challenge, she can be sponsored online at https://www.justgiving.com/Lucy-Moxham2 or by calling the Weldmar Fundraising Team on 01305 261800 – or by visiting Trimar Hospice on Greenhill.
