WATCH: Martin Clunes sends video message on what would have been Fete day

The Doc Martin star is a regular visitor to our annual community event

Today would have been the annual Weldmar Hospicecare Fete – the busiest day of the year at our IPU in Dorchester.

Thousands of visitors normally descend on the meadow and lawns where there are stalls and games, refreshments, entertainment, and more, with around £25,000 being raised towards our specialist end of life care.

Weldmar supporter Martin Clunes has been attending the Fete for a number of years, always making time to visit patients, volunteers and staff, as well as signing autographs and posing for photos with visitors.

He sent us this video message:

Matt Smith, Director of Fundraising and Marketing said of the cancellation, “To say that we are gutted is an understatement. So much hard work and planning goes into these events and they raise a substantial amount of vital funds, which enables us to continue our services each and every year. We’ve never had to our Summer Fete cancelled – we’ve continued through rain and even an arson attack that destroyed all of our Fete donations back in 2012. I never thought there would be a year where we simply would not be able to hold this well-loved event. It’s devastating.”

Hundreds of patients and their loved ones are continuing to receive front line end of life care from Weldmar’s team of dedicated doctors, nurses and health care professionals, all across the county. From bereavement support to at home care, Weldmar continues to be here for everyone who needs us, but we need your support to be able to continue our services.
