Matt’s Colossal 10

Fundraiser takes on ten special challenges in his tenth year at Weldmar

Throughout 2017, Weldmar Hospicecare’s Fundraising Manager, Matt Smith, is celebrating ten years of working for the charity by setting himself a number of challenges.

Matt’s Colossal 10’ is a series of ten challenges, where he will face fears, physical demands, and experience adrenaline fuelled excitement. And he is looking for people to join him for each challenge.

Matt said ““In my ten years at Weldmar Hospicecare, I have seen the fantastic care that has been given to thousands of patients and their loved ones. In the past decade, the services available to the people of Dorset have evolved and become much more patient centred. Like so many people, my family have benefited from Weldmar. My aunt was cared for by the amazing staff both at home and within the hospice 17 years ago. Her illness impacted the whole family; Weldmar weren’t just there for her, but all of us too. I see each and every day what a difference the hospice makes to so many families, and how vital the services are that are provided across the county”.

The challenges are swimming with sharks, abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower, the London Marathon, Skydiving, 3 Peaks Challenge, Wingwalking, the Borneo Jungle Trek, a one mile open water swim, cycling 175 miles between all the Weldmar charity shops and a 10 hour dance-a thon.

Matt said “Working in fundraising, I know just how important the continued support from our local community is. They ensure that Weldmar’s services can be provided throughout Dorset. I have been extremely lucky to have worked with, and supported, so many people who have taken on challenges to raise money for Weldmar and, in my tenth year, it is now my time to step up to the mark. I hope that you will join me too, in helping to continue fund these services.”

Matt’s first challenge takes place on Saturday 18th February – when he will come face to face with sharks at Weymouth SEALIFE Adventure Park. Matt will enter the tank, where he will spend ten minutes in the company of one of nature’s most feared animals. This challenge is kindly being supported by Weymouth SEALIFE who are helping to launch the ten challenges.
