Remembering Pat – a Day Services Volunteer who will be much missed by us all

Pat said that her eight years volunteering at Weldmar were ‘amongst the best of her life’.

In October, Weldmar Hospicecare lost a valued member of our Day Services team, as Creative Therapy Volunteer Pat Beeson sadly passed away.

Pat had been part of Day Services for eight years, and inspired the patients who visited with her love of painting, often sharing her own experiences as an artist.

She often exhibited her work at venues across Dorset, and before she died she asked her family to sell a number of her pieces of work in aid of Weldmar (pictured below).  They raised an impressive £750.

Debbie Elsmore, Creative Therapist, says it wasn’t just her artwork that Pat will be remembered for.  “She delighted us with her love of Pam Ayres and would often read her poetry to our group. Pat had a real way with this and delighted us all, and had the group smiling and laughing with her quick wit and expert delivery of the poetry.”

Pat received end of life care from Weldmar and visited Day Services as a patient, and Debbie says her experience of volunteering gave her a unique perspective.  “Pat came to Day Services just the once as she sadly passed away the following week.  She had seen first-hand how Weldmar cared and supported each patient she had worked with, and now that she needed hospice care it took away any concerns of needing this kind of care.”

At Pat’s funeral, it was mentioned that she had described her eight years working with Weldmar as ‘amongst the best of her life’.

Thank you for everything, Pat.
