Thank you Dorset! An overwhelming response to Weldmar’s plea for PPE

We are now fortunate to have adequate stocks for the time being

Weldmar Hospicecare is thanking the people of Dorset for their help and generosity, following a recent plea on social media for PPE equipment.

Weldmar Community Nurse Luxy Moxham with PPE equipment.Like many other healthcare organisations, Weldmar has been left short of masks, goggles, and other PPE since the outbreak of Covid-19, which allow our clinical teams to continue to provide care to the most vulnerable in society, both in the community and at our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester.

A Facebook post on 9th April, featuring this photo of Weldmar Community Nurse Luxy Moxham, reached more than 20,000 people, being shared almost 300 times in just a couple of days.  The Dorset Echo also ran a story after seeing the post, and a flood of offers of help came in.

Today, the Weldmar Covid-19 Emergency Planning Committee have announced that the charity has enough PPE for the time being, and that reliable supply chains should be in place very soon.

Whilst this situation might change and further help from the community might be needed again, right now it’s been decided not to stockpile any more, as this could be detrimental to other organisations who are in need.

A huge thank you to everyone who made or donated PPE items, to those who made contact with suppliers, and those who spread the message.
