The man re-CYCLING in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare
re-CYCLING your old bike could help make us money!
Meet Danny Collins.
He’s a well known Weymouth character, and part of our Weymouth Friends Group. He’s also got an unusual hobby – he does up old bicycles and sells them on, with all proceeds going to Weldmar Hospicecare. We think it’s the ultimate form of re-CYCLING!
Danny is short of donations at the moment, so if you have an old bike and would like it to have a new home, you can call him and he could even come and collect it from you.
“We can sort out any bike with a puncture,” says Danny, “or maybe the chain or saddle needs sorting out, or the brakes, or the bike hasn’t been looked after too well, I can sort it out”.
As well as traditional push bikes, Danny has brought tandems back to life, as well as battery operated bikes, children’s trikes, racing bikes, and off-road bikes.

The cycles he’s worked on and are ready for sale are placed outside the front of his house, and never last long. “I sell them for anything between £10 and £100”, says Danny, “I suppose most go for about £40. Someone gets a bargain, the bikes don’t end up on the tip, and Weldmar gets the money, so everyone wins.”
Danny also says any bike donated must be in reasonable condition – any bike that’s gone completely rusty from being left out in the garden is probably beyond repair!
If you’d like to contact Danny to arrange donating a bicycle so he can do some more re-CYCLING, you can call him on 01305 787819.
