‘Treated with genuine care, love and attention’: Why Katrina is taking on the Liberty Trail for Bella and Tess
Katrina is taking on a 31-mile hike for Weldmar!
Keen walker, and primary school teacher, Katrina, isn’t relaxing during her summer break before the busy autumn term. Instead, she’s taking on the Liberty Trail; a 31-mile hike from Ham Hill in Somerset, to Lyme Regis in Dorset to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare.
Starting at Ham Hill’s summit, Katrina will weave her way through quaint, sleepy Somerset villages, march along the Monarch Way, and take on the steep hills into Lyme Regis. Katrina hopes to complete the challenge in one day, of which 10 – 12 hours will be hiking time.
Katrina has plenty of reasons to want to take on this challenge. She loves walking, having completed another endurance hiking challenge a couple of years ago. More importantly, two of her dearest friends, Bella and Tess, have both received care from Weldmar.
Katrina, Bella, and Tess all met while teaching at a school in Dorset.
Katrina says ‘Weldmar has cared for a friend and continues to care for another. Weldmar is a Dorset charity and so it is a perfect fit to support.’
Katrina says ‘Weldmar helped Bella, and her husband so much. She was treated with genuine care, love and attention. I want to show my respect for all the lovely, and vital work Weldmar do’.
Katrina adds ‘I’m reminded of Bella most days, with memories, or moments shared appearing on my social feeds. She had a wicked sense of humour. And Tess is an inspiration, her recent swimming challenge to raise money for Weldmar was simply amazing’.
Of her own challenge Katrina says ‘I’m hoping for good walking weather; a grey overcast day would do me nicely. I’ve got a couple of friends joining me for parts of the hike, and a fish and chip supper provided by my husband when I’ve completed the challenge.’
Without the support of people like Katrina, we couldn’t provide the care we do for over 2,800 people per year.
Everyone at Weldmar wishes Katrina the very best of luck with her challenge. If you are doing something out of the ordinary to raise money for Weldmar, we’d love to hear from you.
