Weldmar Hospicecare has vacancies for a number of volunteer posts throughout the organisation - and we will help you choose a role which suits you and supports the needs of Weldmar
At Joseph Weld Hospice, Dorchester (our inpatient unit):
Hotel Services Assistant (Bedside)
We are looking for volunteers to ensure fresh iced water is available to patients, the patient bedside is clean and clear of used crockery and clutter, and to offer conversation with the patient. A regular commitment is required to fulfil a rota from 9am to 11am or 2.30pm to 4.30pm. If you are interested please contact Andy Jackson on 01305 215317.
Hotel Services Assistant (Waiter)
We are looking for volunteers to meet and greet diners, take orders and serve meals in ‘The Orangery’ restaurant which is open daily from 12 noon to 2pm. A regular commitment is required to fulfil a rota. If you are interested please contact Andy Jackson on 01305 215317.
Hotel Services Assistant (Wash Up)
We are looking for volunteers to help in the kitchens during service by washing and returning items of crockery, cutlery, ironware and drinking vessels to their storage positions ready for reuse. Receptionist
This post requires someone with experience in reception work and good people skills. They need to be able to cope with a variety of demands at the main desk. A regular commitment is needed to fulfil a rota.
We have a specific need for:
3pm to 6pm alternate Wednesday
10am to 1pm alternate Saturday
1pm to 4pm Saturday
We also have a need for bank volunteers to cover short notice gaps on the rota:
6pm to 8pm Weekdays
10am to 1pm Saturday/Sunday
1pm to 4pm Saturday/Sunday
Plus Bank Holiday cover between 10am to 1pm, and 1pm to 4pm

Ward Duties
We are looking for volunteers to help serve meals to inpatients at the hospice. A regular commitment is needed to fulfil a rota. We have a specific need for:
8.15am to 11.15am Friday, Sunday
2.15pm to 4.45pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
4.45pm to 7pm Tuesday, alternate Friday

1. Chaplaincy (all sites)
We require someone to work within our chaplaincy team offering support to patients of all faiths and none. A lay pastoral assistant background or equivalent is beneficial, and full training and supervision will be given. A regular commitment is needed.

2. Day Services Assistant (Bridport)
We are looking for volunteers to help serve morning coffee and afternoon tea, chat to patients, and have fun with us at our Bridport Day Services. A regular commitment is needed every Wednesday from 10am to 3pm.

3. Hairdresser (Dorchester)
This post requires someone to offer hairdressing to patients as part of our day services. A regular commitment of two hours is needed on Tuesdays.

4. Hotel Services Assistant (Weymouth)
We are looking for volunteers to assist the chef in all aspects of hotel service delivery with specific focus on the delivery of meals and beverages to social day respite patients using attending our day services. A regular commitment is needed every Monday to cover 3 to 4 hours over lunch.

5. Nails & Handcare (Dorchester, Bridport, Blandford & Sherborne)
We require someone to offer nails and handcare to patients at our day services. Relevant training and experience is desirable. A regular commitment is needed however times can be flexible.

6. Minibus Driver (Weymouth, Dorchester, Bridport)
We are looking to boost our team of volunteer minibus drivers. You will be covered by Weldmar’s vehicle insurance policy, but will need D1 on your driving licence. You will also have experience driving a multi-seater vehicle. You will ideally have a Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) qualification or equivalent. Otherwise, Weldmar will arrange this training for you following your undertaking to join our volunteer team.

In the Community:
1. Befriending – Central & South Dorset (Beaminster, Bridport, Dorchester, Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Portland and surrounding areas)
We are looking for volunteers to provide social support, practical help and companionship to our patients and/or carers in the community. You could be asked to help with local transport, collect prescriptions, sit and chat or light interaction like crosswords and jigsaws, quiet company or reading, light shopping, return library books, or dog walking. A regular commitment is needed

2. Drivers – North Dorset
(Blandford, Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Sturminster Newton and surrounding areas)
We need volunteer drivers to assist us with transporting patients to our day services at Blandford Community Hospital on a Thursday, and The Yeatman Hospital in Sherborne on a Friday. Occasional drivers also required to transport patients, carers and the bereaved to medical appointments and support groups. Reimbursement of mileage expenses is available.

3. Drivers – Central Dorset

We need volunteer drivers to assist us with transporting patients using our day services at Trimar Hospice on a Monday. Occasional drivers also required to transport patients, carers and the bereaved to medical appointments and support groups. Reimbursement of mileage expenses is available.

Administrative Roles at Trimar House, Weymouth – Coming Soon!
1. Receptionist
This post requires someone with confidence to work in a busy environment, with the ability to work independently at times, managing the reception area. This includes varying demands and welcoming visitors to Trimar House. Our reception volunteers manage telephone calls, deal with enquiries from the public and for Weldmar staff, and will offer a warm welcome to staff, patients and visitors, so good interpersonal skills and a calm and friendly approach are also desired.
Our volunteers also support the teams working in the building by providing administrative support which could include photocopying, filing, preparing mailshots, data inputting, proof reading, typing reports, laminating or franking the post. Tasks are always allocated according to preference and the skills of the individual.
Trimar House will soon be open from Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm, and volunteers will commit to a rota depending on preferences and availability.
We also have a need for bank volunteers to cover on an ad-hoc basis.

2. Supporter Care Admin Assistant
We are looking for volunteers with IT skills including the ability to input data efficiently. Working as part of the Fundraising Team, in addition to database updating, the roles encompass a variety of office admin tasks. A minimum of 4 hours per week is required which can be scheduled to suit the volunteer but a regular commitment is needed. Full training, support and guidance will be given.

2. Fundraising Helpers

Retail Operations:
1. Charity Shops
We are urgently looking for volunteers in our Bridport South Street, Bridport East Street, Dorchester, Dorchester Book Shop, Shaftesbury, Wareham, Wimborne, Wool, Weymouth Great George Street, Weymouth Lodmoor Hill and Weymouth Wyke Regis shops.
Working as part of a team to maximise sales, we need volunteers to help with any of the following:
- Customer service
- Taking cash and till operations
- Arranging displays
- Unpacking donated items
- Steaming and general cleaning
Any help would be really appreciated – even just a few hours would make such a difference. However volunteers are always needed in all of our shops and outlets, any day including Saturdays and Sundays at some sites.

2. Retail Outlets
We are looking for more volunteers to help with sorting, tidying, occasional moving of bulky items, customer service and refurbishing in our Blandford, Dorchester Clearance, Poole and Weymouth outlets. We also need volunteer drivers to assist with deliveries. A regular commitment of four hours is needed.
