Volunteers Week: Celebrating the contribution that our amazing volunteers make

From retail to reflexology, we have valued volunteers helping in all aspects of our work.

This week is Volunteers Week and so we’re saying a big thank you to ours! We can’t do the work we do without the continued support of our 1,200 volunteers, whether they help us in our retail shops and outlets, by providing patient care, or in more usual times by helping us with our fundraising and at events.

We know that not all of our volunteers have been able to fulfil their usual roles during the pandemic, but we still value each and every one of them, and look forward to working with them again as things start to get back to normal.

We’re shining a light on some of our amazing volunteers to find out why they give their time, skills, and experience to support Weldmar Hospicecare.

Hilary Osborne: Retail volunteer, Blandford

Hilary has been volunteering in the Blandford shop for just over ten years. Hilary said “At Weldmar I sort through the donations, steam, and display the items. I enjoy the company of the staff and volunteers, and like giving my time to such a worthwhile cause. Would I recommend volunteering at Weldmar? Yes, I would – give it a try!”

Elaine Smith: Complementary Therapy volunteer, IPU

For the past twenty years, Elaine has been volunteering her time providing complementary therapy treatments of massage and aromatherapy at the Inpatient Unit. Elaine said. “The best thing about volunteering in complementary therapy is being able to be a calming influence at a vulnerable time in someone’s life. I would 110% recommend Weldmar as a place to volunteer.

Trevor Lewis: Fundraising volunteer (and a Volunteer Ambassador)

There’s not much that Trevor hasn’t done since he started volunteering at Weldmar over five years ago, but his support of the charity goes back even further. Trevor said “I was a steward for the first Midnight Walk, I’ve taken photos at events, and I’m now the deputy chair of the Volunteer Forum, and I act as an ambassador for the charity. The best thing about volunteering at Weldmar is knowing that you’re making a difference. And making friends along the way.”

We are always looking for people willing to give up their time to help us. Our roles are varied and can suit your availability, skills, and experience.

Would you like to spend some time helping in one of our charity shops? Even a couple of hours a week will make a difference.
