Waitrose Fundraising

Bridport’s Waitrose store recently presented over £900 to Weldmar Hospicecare.

Waitrose Fundraising

The Waitrose branch in Bridport supported Weldmar as part of their Community Matters scheme. Weldmar had cared for the husband of Clare Rawlings, a member of staff at Waitrose, and her team nominated Weldmar for the fundraising scheme in store.

David Rodgers, Section Manager Operations at Waitrose Bridport, said “I had been working with Clare for some time when she received the devastating news that her husband had passed away. Given that Weldmar had done so much for Clare and her husband, as well as other people we work with, we supported them through our Community Matters scheme, but we wanted to do more. I had recently completed the London to Brighton bike ride, which gave me the idea to do a charity bike ride. I and a colleague of mine, Simon Bending, decided we would ride from Portland Bill Lighthouse to Waitrose Bridport”.

The two riders made sure that they stopped at Clare’s house during their journey and their story was fed to the store’s dining room via Facebook so that they could be tracked.

David continued “We are grateful to everyone who sponsored us and our aim is to raise more money in the future for the incredible work the charity does. We just can’t thank everyone enough for their overwhelming generosity. Between the bike ride and Community Matters, £942 was raised. It’s money that can really make a difference.”

Jon Panton, Business Fundraising Manager for Weldmar, received the cheque on 1st December. Jon said “Everyone at Weldmar Hospicecare is truly grateful for the hard work that David and Simon put in to raising this money – and to the staff and shoppers at Waitrose in Bridport for voting for Weldmar with their Community Matters. It is only with the support of the local community and businesses that Weldmar staff are able to be here to provide our outstanding services to local people at a time when they need us most”.
