“We know how this feels” – sisters create handmade gifts for families of patients
The gesture comes for those with loved ones staying at our Inpatient Unit over Christmas
Two sisters have put together some very special gift bags for the families of patients at our Inpatient Unit.
Georgina and Danielle’s mum, Joanne, was cared for by Weldmar in the run up to Christmas in 2018.
Putting up the Christmas decorations as a family was always an annual tradition, which Weldmar was able to make possible when Joanne was discharged home before her final stay in the hospice.
The pair said they wanted to give something back to Weldmar, and created the handmade packages, which they delivered to the IPU to handover to nurses Jo and Lucinda, pictured above.
Each gift contains hot chocolate and marshmallows, a special Christmas bauble into which a photograph can be placed, a crocheted heart, and handwritten card.
“We were in this position two years ago. We were so well looked after by Weldmar, but we just wanted to do something else for family members because we know how this feels.
“We want to put a smile on their face, and provide a little pick-me-up.”
