Weldmar Hospicecare Summer Fete cancelled for a second year
We’ve taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event
We’re sorry to report that Weldmar Hospicecare’s popular Summer Fete has had to be cancelled for a second consecutive year.
After very careful consideration, we have decided that it cannot take place as planned this September.
Current government guidelines encourage us to exercise caution and consider the risks, and although the Fete is held outside, once the site is laid out with all the marquees and stalls it would be extremely challenging to guarantee enough space for social distancing, should we attract the usual attendance of around 3,000 people.
As the event is also held in the grounds of the Inpatient Unit, our first priority must be the safety of our patients and their loved ones, as well as our staff and volunteers.
Popular attractions at the Summer Fete include the Nurses’ Stall, the Silent Auction, and supporter Martin Clunes is a regular visitor.
In the past, the Fete has survived flooding and an arson attack, but was forced to succumb to the coronavirus pandemic last year after running annually since 1995 (pictured below), the year after the Inpatient Unit first opened its doors.
How you can help
As well as being an opportunity to meet with the local community and our supporters, and see loved ones making an often emotional return to the hospice, the Summer Fete is a significant fundraising opportunity, raising around £25,000 each year.
Without this income, your support in other ways is invaluable.
We have got lots of fundraising ideas and top tips! You can also sign up to play the weekly Lottery for just £1 a week, with a guaranteed weekly first prize of £1,000, or you could set up a regular, affordable monthly donation. you have until the end of August to sign up for our Jurassic Coast Challenge, or if you are feeling really adventurous, the Sahara Trek in November 2022!
However you support us – thank you.
