Weldmar IT consultant is an award winner

Kate Taylor has worked on ‘incredibly exciting digital innovations’ with us

The IT consultant who worked with Weldmar Hospicecare to develop the Weldmar Connect app has been recognised with a top industry honour for her work on the project.

Kate Taylor has been named the as one of the ‘BIMA 100’ – 100 individuals who are considered the most influential in digital and tech, by the British Independent Media Association.

She’s been recognised in the ‘Tech For Good’ category, supported by Microsoft, for her work on our Digital Inclusion project, which included Weldmar Connect.

Kate says, “I’m so delighted and proud to win this award especially in the category of Tech For Good. I’ve always hugely enjoyed working with charities, not-for-profits and social enterprises as it is where my skills can have the biggest impact on people’s lives. Never has this been more apparent than in the project for which I’ve won this award – the Digital Inclusion project for Weldmar Hospicecare.

“The project funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport led to the development of an innovative palliative care remote patient-monitoring app named Weldmar Connect which we’re now in talks about sharing with other hospices across the UK as well as international charities operating in India and Africa. It’s an incredibly exciting digital innovation which has already brought significant benefits to the lives of the hospice’s nurses, patients, their carers and loved ones.

“In addition to the app development, the program also involved delivering a number of digital up-skilling initiatives, looking to help those most digital-excluded feel more able and confident to make use of technology to enhance their daily lives. Given the situation which has since arisen the initiatives couldn’t have been better timed as the workshops and materials we shared throughout January and February have hopefully given people the confidence to video call family or carry out their shopping online, making a big difference to them in these times of social isolation.

“It’s been a joy to work with the team at Weldmar to deliver IT support for them. I’m so excited that the app is now getting such a lot of wide-spread recognition for the potentially transformative innovation which it is.”
