Firstly, I hope you and your loved ones are keeping safe and well.  As we all know, the impact of Covid-19 continues and the high amount of uncertainty around many things, including the economy, is certainly a concern for many.  But there continues to be a high amount of uncertainty for us at Weldmar Hospicecare too.

My name is Emma and I have worked at Weldmar Hospicecare for 13 years. If we haven’t personally met before, I’m sure you recognise my face from our recent urgent appeal, or via our social media channels.

Earlier last month, I changed roles and I am now proudly in charge of our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester. Having worked on the front line in the hospice for so many years, I am privileged to be able to now lead our amazing and dedicated nursing team and to continue ensuring that our patients receive vital end of life care with the compassion, comfort and dignity that they deserve.

We are receiving lots of heart-warming comments and feedback, both on social media and through the post. Although we don’t provide our care for praise, it is certainly really appreciated by all of our team when we know people are thinking of us at this challenging time. Twice a year we send out a magazine, to update you on everything that is happening right across Weldmar, talking about how your support continues to make a difference and our plans for the future.

But right now, it’s extremely difficult for us to look too far into the future, because the current pandemic is ever changing and our priority is ensuring that as an organisation, we stay resilient over the coming few months.

So, our latest magazine is slightly different.  You might get it through the post, or you can read a digital copy on our website.  It has given us the opportunity to update you on everything that is happening right now across Weldmar Hospicecare and to reassure you that we are continuing to be here for everyone who needs us most, throughout Covid-19.

When I read my copy of our magazine, I was so incredibly proud of everything that we have, and continue to achieve in these extremely challenging circumstances. But I know that this is just the start.  We’re continuing to lose income and will do so for many months ahead of us. We’ve had to extend the cancellation of many of our events and our care will certainly cost us a lot more money than what we will be able to raise this year. The loss of income is irreplaceable and the effects of Covid-19 will stay with Weldmar Hospicecare for years to come.

We need to be adapting and adjusting right now. We need to be able to recover from this loss of income as quickly as possible to ensure that me and my colleagues can continue to care for everyone who needs us most.

We hold two raffles a year, which raise a significant sum of money for our services. But we know that times are tough at the moment and we’re unsure, very much like the rest of our income, how much we will raise this time round. But, as with everything that we do, it’s important that we try.

You could win our top prize of £500 but there’s also a second prize of £200 and a third of £50. But the best part is, every raffle ticket that you purchase, will enable us to continue providing our compassionate care throughout this pandemic.

    No one under the age of 18 years may purchase or sell our raffle tickets. You must also be a UK resident to enter our raffle.

    Our raffle books contain 10 tickets per book, each ticket is £1.00.
